Eel Trail

The prosperous city of Ely was an island until steam power drained the surrounding fenlands in the early 1800s, creating a flat, reed-covered region of rich farmland.  Ely derives its name from the Isle of Eels when the city was surrounded by water.  Today, Ely remains proud of its eel-inspired heritage as you will see as you are guided around this public art trail.
