Ely has been a destination for visitors for well over a thousand years. From the age of Medieval pilgrims visiting the shrine of St Etheldreda and the magnificent Cathedral to the modern traveller coming to explore the vibrant food scene, the independent shops, the incredible heritage and the still magnificent Cathedral.

Below you’ll find all you need to know for before you arrive, once you arrive and when you’re planning that inevitable return visit.

Reach us by Rail

Ely is well served by the national railway network, which links it with all of East Anglia and key parts of the Midlands and the North-West, so why not complement your visit with a relaxing train journey to our city?

See the map below for the main through routes to Ely and the major connections from further afield.

Ely station is operated and managed by Greater Anglia, and full details of the facilities at the station, including a virtual tour, can be found here.

Ely is also one of the stations covered by the Hereward Community Rail Partnership, which exists to promote the rail service between Ely and Peterborough and access by train to the wider Fenland area.
Book your ticket on line using one of the train operators’ websites and don’t forget to download the Visit Ely app to help you plan your day. Once you arrive at Ely station, it’s time to open the app and unlock the enormous potential of this pocket city.

From Ely Station, join us on our “Station to City” walk, leading you from the station exit and down to Ely’s picturesque Riverside.

From there, join our circular tour – “Discovering Ely” – a route that allows you to explore all of the city’s highlights along the way.
