CD Launch: Sonatas by Andrew Downes

ASC Records & Prima Facie Records is delighted to present “Sonatas by Andrew Downes”, a CD of the unique, vibrant, meditative and fresh voice of the late English Composer, performed by world-renowned artists at the height of their careers. The CD comprises Sonata for Double Bass and Piano, performed by Principal Double Bassist of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, David Daly, with pianist and specialist in British Contemporary Music, Duncan Honeybourne; Sonata for Horn and Piano, performed by the Principal Hornist of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra Ondřej Vrabec, with widely acclaimed Czech pianist Daniel Wiesner; and Sonata for Cello and Piano, performed by award-winning Cellist and Conductor, Graham Walker, accompanied by prize-winning musicologist, pianist and conductor, Professor David Trippett of Cambridge University. Andrew Downes Composer (1950-2023) composed over 120 works, encompassing large-scale cantatas and oratorios, orchestral works, works for all manner of chamber groups, songs for all voice types, and numerous choral works. His music has been performed and recorded by the likes of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra and Philharmonia Voices (upcoming).
