Walk in the footsteps of Richard Cox, one of the first canons in Ely’s New Foundation and a man with close links to Henry VIII’s royal court. Chosen by Elizabeth I to become Bishop of Ely, Cox played a key role in steering the Reformation here during a time of huge religious change across Europe and England. He was involved at the highest levels of national church life, even giving his approval to the very first Book of Common Prayer.
On this tour, you will step into Cox’s world – the people he worked with, the choices he made, and how the Reformation shaped both him and Ely itself. It’s a story of big changes, bold choices and personal impact, and a reminder that change and reconciliation feel just as familiar and as important today and they were then
