Make it with Marmalade Discover Drypoint Etching half-day workshop
Drypoint Etching is an intaglio printmaking method which involves cutting your design into the surface of a plate with a sharp etching needle. It’s originates from techniques used in the medieval period to embellish suits of armour, but at marmalade we like to use Perspex for our plates as it’s light and easy to handle. Prints produced from this process have a soft-edged line, but Drypoint Etching can also be used to create amazing and bold graphic images too, if that’s more your style.
For the spring/summer programme we are offering half day sessions to discover the magic of Drypoint Etching and a special one off Discover Drypoint Day on Sunday 10th May, that will allow you to dive deeply into this fascinating artform . As we take you through every process and provide you with one-to-one tuition to help you get the most out of your time with us, our workshops are suitable for beginners and people with no previous arts experience. They are also great for those with rusty skills who want a refresher session to boost their confidence. We provide all the materials needed at our workshops, along with tea, coffee and homemade light refreshments, so you don’t need to bring anything with you (unless you are a young person over 16 years old as you need to bring an adult, or are doing a full day workshop, in which case you need to bring your lunch).
Please note, that although our inks are washable and we have aprons in the studio, it’s not a good idea to wear your best clothes when you visit us, as printmaking can be a bit messy! Getting to us at marmalade is easy, with buses from Cambridge (the T5 run by A2B Buses), Ely and Newmarket (the 112 run by Stephensons Buses) stopping either outside the studio, or a few minutes away. The rail station at Soham with trains from Ely is a ten-minute walk from us. If you are coming by car, there is free on street parking outside the studio on Pratt Street and two free local car parks a short walk away. Both the half-day and full day workshops cater for beginners.
