Two of Us: In the Shadow of Clause 28 An LGBT+ History & Cultural Event

Two of Us (1987) is a compelling TV drama, made for the BBC’s schools strand Scene, which, at the time, caused controversy and made headlines by depicting two young men falling in love. At the same time, the Thatcher government was about to introduce Clause 28, which notoriously banned the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality in sex education in schools.

Marking 40 years since Clause 28, this LGBT+ event will be introduced by social historian Marcus Collins. The screening of Two of Us is followed by a Q&A discussion with producer/director Roger Tonge and writer Leslie Stewart, plus members of the cast subject to commitments. The event will also examine the rise and fall of Clause 28 and the film’s legacy into the present day.

This is a free event but tickets must be booked in advance. Book online here:,two-of-us-in-the-shadow-of-clause-28_25220.htm Tickets are also available from the Babylon Gallery box office.

Advisory: This event deals with mature themes.
