In 2021, East Cambridgeshire District Council and the City of Ely Council began an exciting project to create and deploy a new digital information network across the city of Ely.

Funded by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, the project was designed to provide residents and visitors with an engaging and accessible way to discover the wide range of activities, events, businesses and services available throughout Ely, while remaining sympathetic to the character of the city.

In 2023, the first of Ely’s “Digital Signposts” were switched on and the project went live. The screens provide a highly visible platform for sharing timely and relevant information with residents and visitors, showcasing everything that Ely has to offer.

From major events and visitor attractions to independent businesses, local activities and important information, the Digital Signposts allow content to be updated throughout the year to reflect what is happening across the city.

Located at key points around Ely, including the railway station, riverside and major car parks, the Digital Signposts form a citywide network designed to reach people at some of Ely’s busiest locations. They provide Visit Ely and its partners with an effective way of communicating with both residents and the thousands of visitors welcomed to the city each year.

An important part of the network is its ability to display current and relevant promotional content. Alongside information from Visit Ely and imagery kindly supplied by Ely Photographic Society, the screens showcase businesses, attractions, events and organisations through a range of paid advertising opportunities.
