In 2021 East Cambridgeshire District Council and City of Ely Council began a process to create and deploy an exciting new facility within the city of Ely. Funded by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority this excting project is designed to allow residents and visitors to discoverthe wide range of activities and services avaliable within Ely whilst also being user friendly, engaging and sympathetic to the city.

in 2023 the first of the “Digital Signposts” were switched on and the project went live. With a ‘kiosk’ version of the Visit Ely app installed, these interactive signposts offer the same user experience as the traditional mobile application but without the need to download the app immediately.

With the ability to plan and map routes that can then be opened on a smart phone by simply scanning a QR code, there will be no more head scratching for visitors in search of the nearest coffee shop, public convenience or that perfect shopping experience. For residents, it’s the same, with events and important informaiton being made readily avaliable at the touch of a screen, this is a true game changer.

Located at key areas around the city, including the trainstation, the riverside and all major car parks, they are positioned perfectly for the start of a pedestrian journey for the newly welcomed visitor or to aid the resident in their day to day life.

One of the functions of the digital signage is the ability to display current and relevant advertisements and images. This includes images kindly supplied by the Ely Photogrpahic Society and a range of paid for advertisements.
