Oliver Cromwell’s House

Few figures in British history spark as much debate as Oliver Cromwell — and for ten pivotal years, he called Ely home. Now, you can explore the very house where he lived and experience what domestic life was like in the 17th century.

As you move through a series of thoughtfully recreated period rooms, you’ll uncover stories of the English Civil War, peek inside Mrs. Cromwell’s bustling kitchen, and discover the Family Room, where you'll learn about education, fashion, and view original family portraits. And if you’re feeling brave, take a wander through the haunted bedroom — but be warned, it's not for the faint-hearted!

Before you go, drop into the well-stocked gift shop for a unique memento, and stop by the Tourist Information Centre, where our friendly team is ready to help you plan the perfect day in Ely.

Stained Glass Museum

'A Gem in the Fens'. The Stained Glass Museum is a hidden treasure within Ely Cathedral. An independent museum, it is uniquely dedicated to the art of stained glass.
