The Summer Book

Set on the spectacular Gulf of Finland and shot in 16mm, Glenn Close leads this adaptation of Tove Jansson’s beloved novel about the start and end of life. A 90-year-old grandmother brings her bereaved son and granddaughter Sophia to her summer cottage to help them grieve for the death of Sophia’s mother. It’s an effective and distinctive adaptation, widely regarded as honouring the spirit of Jansson’s book. (95 mins)
